Opening of Light Signal at 53rd & Hooper
Councilwoman Jan Perry, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), students from nearby Hooper Elementary, and parishioners from St. Odelias Catholic Church celebrated the activation of a new signal light today in South Los Angeles. The signal, located at the corner of 53rd Street and Hooper Avenue, will improve pedestrian safety in the area, slowing down traffic on this busy intersection and providing safer passage for area school children and parish members of St. Odelias church.

Kanye West Loop Dreams at Challengers
Councilwoman Jan Perry joins in the Kanye West Loop Dreams Foundation Kick-Off Celebration at Challengers Boys and Girls Club. The foundation provides opportunities for youth with musical aspirations to express and share their talents and gain real-life experience in the music industry.

Dedication of new "smart" crosswalk
Councilwoman Jan Perry joins the Department of Transportation, students from Harmony Elementary School, and Jefferson High School ROTC to dedicate the new "smart" crosswalk at the intersection of 42nd Place and Central Avenue. The smart crosswalk will help to ensure the safety of children from area schools walking to and from school.

National Night Out Event
Councilwoman Jan Perry joined community members from throughout the Ninth District, local law enforcement, businesses, and local stakeholders to celebrate the 24th Annual National Night Out on August 7, 2007. Local community police stations throughout downtown and South Los Angeles hosted community celebrations designed to promote community involvement in local public safety issues. Perry participated in five National Night Out Events hosted by Newton, Central, 77th, Southwest, and Southeast Divisions.

Grand-Opening of Ralphs fresh fare
The Ralph's Fresh Fare opened on Flower and 9th Streets in downtown Los Angeles on July 20, 2007, making it the first grocery store to open in almost 50 years in downtown Los Angeles.

Star Wars Day
Councilwoman Perry welcomed one of the largest assemblies of Star Wars fans to the Los Angeles Convention Center for a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of Star Wars Episode IV. To help mark the anniversary, she presented the organizers with a resolution declaring it Star Wars Day in the City of Los Angeles.
